ITEX 2003
On 16
May, 2003, the 14th International Invention, Innovation, Industrial
Design and Technology Exhibition (ITEX 2003) was launched at the Sunway
Convention Centre. Themed Creativity & Innovation: Key to
Competitiveness in the Global Economy, ITEX 2003 is organized by the
Malaysian Inventions and Design Society (MINDS) and showcased a total
of 162 inventions.
A
premier platform since 1989 for inventors and researchers to display
their creations and findings, exhibitors of ITEX 2003 include
individual inventors, researchers from academic powerhouses such as
Universiti Malaya, Universiti Sains Malaysia, Universiti Teknologi
Malaysia, Skudai, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and Universiti Putra
Malaysia, renowned research institutes such as the Industrial Chemistry
Research Institute of Poland, MARDI, MPOB, Lembaga Getah Malaysia,
MACRES and Forest Research Institute of Malaysia.
Among
the highlights of ITEX 2003 is the focus on ‘Young Inventors’ to
highlight the inventions of our young Malaysians. Ten successful young
inventors vying for the Young Inventors Award, showcased their winning
inventions including the Wakie-Wakie Pillow invented by 11 year old
Asfarina Fathin Redzuan.
In
continuation of the exhibition, a conference entitled “Innovation &
Venture Financing” was later organized by the Asian Strategy and
Leadership Institute (ASLI) which was held on 19th to 20th May 2003 at
Sunway Lagoon Resort Hotel. The conference featured speakers like Yang
Berhormat Datuk Seri Law Hieng Ding, Minister of Science, Technology
and the Environment, Mr. John Snyder from the University of Cambridge,
UK and Tan Sri Datuk Dr. Augustine Ong, the President of MINDS.
To
commemorate the spectacular creations, the closing ceremony of ITEX
2003 on 18 May, 2003 duly featured the presentation of nine Special
Recognition Awards where Gold, Silver or Bronze medals were presented
to winners of each competition category.
