Seen and Heard: Young Malaysian Tale Tellers
Do you have the guts to stand up in front of a
crowd to present a story? If it is not your style to tell tales
publicly, you should have seen Malaysia’s finest taletellers
at the Suria KLCC Storytelling competition this year on 14 September
2003.
In a delightful display of wit, charm and creativity,
15 finalists of the Suria KLCC Storytelling Competition captivated
the audience with their expressive, colourful and interesting
rendition of their favourite story books.
The 15 young participants came fully prepared
and decked in costumes that were adapted from the characters of
their stories. It was a morning of sheer fun and a thrilling display
of creativity as they mimicked characters from their stories,
ranging from a meek little mouse, a chirpy sparrow to a young
prince.
The Suria KLCC Storytelling Competition, which
is now in its fourth edition, has become a popular annual event
for children and an entertaining activity for families and friends.
This year’s competition was held on a much wider scale with
the involvement of British Council and the endorsement from the
Ministry of Education.
Capturing the attention of the audience and impressing
the panel of judges included 8-year-old Harrish Kunasegaran, the
1st prize winner, 9-year-old Nik Adruce Nik Adelin, the 2nd prize
winner and 10-year-old Ian Loo Han Rong, the 3rd prize winner.
