Phua Chu Kang Entices Malaysians To Come Play Play In Singapore

The popular and iconic contractor from Singapore, Phua Chu Kang (PCK), made his way to Kuala Lumpur today to launch the Half Price Singapore Surprise campaign. Offering Malaysians yet another reason to visit Singapore under the Singapore Tourism Board’s 2009 Reasons to enjoy Singapore year-round campaign, the Half Price Singapore Surprise is in its third year and will run from 29 May till 30 June 2009. It is one of the many exciting events lined up during this mid-year season such as the Great Singapore Sale, Singapore Arts Festival, Singapore River Festival, Night Festival 2009, HeritageFest Singapore, Singapore Food Festival and Singfest.

At the media launch of the Half Price Singapore Surprise campaign this morning, members of the media were bemused when, 30 PCK lookalikes with curly hair and yellow boots paraded into the Platinum Room, Pavilion KL. After much enthusiastic guesswork, the media members finally identified the real PCK, who proceeded to introduce the exciting attractions taking part this year while keeping media members entertained with his trademark rib-tickling jokes.

This year’s list of participating attractions has expanded with new entries such as The Mint Museum of Toys, Gogreen Segway Eco Adventure and Desperados at Sentosa, ready to entice Malaysians of all ages. Back by to popular demand are the Singapore Zoo, Night Safari, Jurong BirdPark, Science Centre Singapore, Singapore Flyer, Sentosa Imbiah, HiPPO River Cruise, Captain Explorer DUKw Tour and more. Kindly refer to the Annex for a full list of attractions.

The Half Price Singapore Surprise promotion is exclusively for Malaysian tourists who only need to produce their passports and embarkation cards at the ticketing counters at participating attractions to enjoy preferential promotional rates. They can choose to pay the corresponding published rates in Ringgit Malaysia or get a 50% discount off the published rates if they choose to pay in Singapore Dollar. For example, admission to Jurong BirdPark would cost S$9 or RM18 instead of the usual S$18. No change will be given if the transaction is made in Ringgit. Singapore Permanent Residents and Malaysians with Singapore work permits, employment or student passes are not eligible for the promotion.

Mr Gerald Lum, Area Director of Singapore Tourism Board (Malaysia), said, “The Half Price Singapore Surprise campaign is well-accepted and highly-anticipated by Malaysians as it allows them to stretch their Ringgit further for a value-for-money experience at popular tourist destinations in Singapore. This is yet another reason for Malaysians to visit and enjoy Singapore while spending quality time together as a family. Besides the Half Price Singapore Surprise campaign, Malaysian visitors can also enjoy other events happening in Singapore during this mid-year period like the popular Great Singapore Sale, Singapore Food Festival, Singapore River Festival and more.”
