Sportswear Introduces The 2009 Spring/Summer Collection
In
Fall, Nike launched Nike Sportswear and this Spring Summer 09, Nike
continues its mission of sports and innovation with its product line
that blends the best of Nike’s near four-decade long sports heritage
with the latest design and technical innovations.
Built and assorted around eight icons, this season the Nike Sportswear
Design Team drew inspiration and creative direction from the 20th
anniversary of Nike ACG – Nike’s outdoor line.
The Creative Direction for Spring Summer: ACG
For over 20 years Nike ACG has been at the forefront of the outdoor
industry, offering the highest levels of technical innovation in
footwear, apparel, and equipment. ACG means All Conditions Gear, and
all conditions means all conditions. Delivering the highest level of
performance for every environment, in every situation, in activity and
in life, from the mountains to the metropolis. ACG celebrates a rare
breed of athlete, one who looks within for competition and one whose
passion for the environment rivals their passion for play. The ACG
product line is a testament to the “we can do better” rally cry that
started it all in ’89.
Taking inspiration from its sports history, Nike Sportswear looked at
its outdoor product line as an inspiration source for Spring Summer
‘09. “Everything we do is grounded in sports”, Richard Clarke, Creative
Director of Nike Sportswear says. “For the launch of Nike Sportswear we
looked at the Beijing games and derived inspiration from that. This
Season, we took ACG and its 20th anniversary as a driving force for the
creative direction’.
Drawing further inspiration from the colors and materials of outdoor
obsession The Sportswear Design Team connected to the roots of ACG,
using a palette of bright colors, elemental graphics and new materials.
The Nike Cortez and the Eugene Track Jacket Lead the Icons for Spring
Summer 09
Staying true to the Nike Sportswear legacy calls for a continual
remixing of the eight icons that the Sportswear lineage is built upon
in celebration of the pinnacle in performance design for both footwear
and apparel. The Air Force 1, the Windrunner, AW 77 Hoody, the Nike
Dunk, Air Max 90, Eugene Track Jacket, the Cortez and Nike Sportswear
Tee continue as icons of infinite inspiration that guide the Sportswear
line and its assortments.
Of the Iconic 8, the Cortez and the Eugene Track Jacket arose as the
two symbolic icons that embody what the 2009 Spring/Summer collection
is all about.
