Data Systems Survey Helps to Shape Winning Storage
Strategies That Tide Current Economic Downturn
The
phenomenal growth of data makes storage a top priority in enterprises
even in the wake of the current financial crisis.
A whopping 88% of the CIOs interviewed confirmed this fact that formed
a part of the results of a survey conducted by Hitachi Data Systems
Corporation, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd. (NYSE: HIT) and
the only provider of Services Oriented Storage Solutions. Technology
heads taking part in the survey from across Asia Pacific unanimously
agreed that IT is embedded closely in all business operations, which
make leveraging IT efficiently a critical task.
The survey results also revealed several key findings that raise
valuable insights on the synergy between the business and the
technology environment. Improving operational effectiveness (86%) and
reducing cost of infrastructure (74%) are the most popular factors that
determine IT spend. Improving competitive position and value-added
service from vendors trailed at 64% and 52% respectively as deciding
factors for an organisation’s IT spend.
On the topic of storage solutions spend amidst the turmoil in the money
markets, 57% of the CIOs stated that they would not reduce their
storage investments. Managing costs (69%) and allocation of
storage resources (52%) are the most critical tasks to be achieved in
the uncertain economic climate, while a centralised approach to
business is the single-most important factor that defines business
success according technology decision-makers. Building a convincing
business argument to justify storage investments (52%) and doing more
with current assets (50%) were two most sought after needs from a
technology vendor, going into 2009.
“In these uncertain economic times, the reality is IT budgets will
continue to get scrutinised, even though data continues to grow rapidly
and expectations on service levels continue to increase on IT.
Companies require a value-added storage solution that can improve their
operational efficiency while reducing total infrastructure costs.
Hitachi Data Systems is committed to partnering with customers to help
them “do more with less” and win in the downturn,” said Johnson Khoo,
Managing Director, Hitachi Data Systems Malaysia.
Hitachi Data Systems’ services oriented storage solutions are built on
a market-proven storage platform, which when combined with Hitachi’s
controller-based storage virtualisation technology, can be easily
deployed to externally attached, multi-vendor storage devices.
Customers gain many measurable benefits including storage
consolidation, improved utilisation of assets, reduced TCO, and a lower
environmental footprint, across the enterprise. Supported by
best-in-breed storage solutions and by leveraging technologies such as
virtualisation, dynamic tiered storage, dynamic provisioning,
de-duplication and active archive, Hitachi Data Systems is focused on
enabling organisations to better align their infrastructures to their
business objectives. The services oriented approach to storage helps
customers to drive significant return on their investments and storage
assets, achieve genuine operational expense savings, and gain control
and governance over their unstructured data environments.
The survey was conducted when senior IT representatives of top
enterprises across Asia Pacific attended the Hitachi Data Systems Asia
Pacific CIO Summit at Cebu, the Philippines, in early November 2008.
The Summit served as an opportunity for senior IT management from
across the region to meet and share insights with each other.
