A “Little Voice” Premieres in Support of Cancer Research in Malaysia

In a spectacular premiere performance of soaring voices and heartfelt music, the London West End comedy play “The Rise and Fall of Little Voice” made its Malaysian debut, all for a good cause.

The Cancer Research Initiatives Foundation (CARIF) together with the Joseph Eu Foundation hosted a Charity Premier & Dinner of this award winning comedy play by Jim Cartwright. This ‘play-with-music’ has been widely regarded as one of the best British plays of the past 2 decades, and has met with critical acclaim worldwide.

Featuring a cast of stage, television and film actors and actresses from the United Kingdom, this play took centrestage today at the Grand Ballroom, Hilton Kuala Lumpur. More than 400 guests were treated to an evening of dining and music, along with the Guest of Honour - Minister of Health, Dato’ Seri Ong Ka Ting and Datin Seri Wendy Wong. Among the distinguished guests included British High Commissioner H.E. Boyd McCleary CVO, YBHg. Datuk Kamaludin Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, HRH Tengku Puan Pahang Tunku Hajjah Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah and Tunku Tan Sri Dato' Seri Ahmad Yahaya, Chairman of CARIF Board of Trustees.

The response to the Charity Premier & Dinner in support of CARIF was overwhelming, with all the donation tables priced at RM30,000, RM 20,000 and RM10,000 completely sold out. A cheque presentation ceremony was held last week where Datin Anne Eu and Datuk Dr Khoo Boo Khean from the Joseph Eu Foundation presented a sum of RM50,000 to YM Tunku Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Ahmad Yahaya of CARIF. As part of its support for the event, the cost of the charity dinner was fully sponsored by the Joseph Eu Foundation. All proceeds from the sale of tables at this dinner theatre were also donated in entirety to CARIF.  Although the tables were fully sold, donations to fund CARIF’s work were received from the guests at the dinner and to date, the organisation is still receiving support from generous individuals and corporations.
