Samsung Calls On Malaysians To be A Part Of Olympic History

Samsung, a Worldwide Presenting Partner of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games is recruiting approximately 1,500 Torchbearers from all around the world. The Olympic Torch Relay conveys the Olympic Flame over its planned route, spreading its message of passion, humanity, peace and goodwill. After 44 years, this is the second time in the history of Olympics; the flame will pass through Malaysian shores. Samsung invites Malaysians to reach out for this golden opportunity to be an Olympic Torchbearer and take part in this grand and memorable event.

The Olympic Torch Relay in Malaysia will be held on 21 April 2008 in Kuala Lumpur and 18 Malaysians will stand the chance-of-a-lifetime to be an Olympic Torchbearer.

These 18 torchbearers should be outstanding Malaysians that come from all walks of life. Samsung invites the participation of any Malaysian who is above 14 years of age and has an inspiring true story of how they pushed their limits for the benefit of society as a whole or to attain personal improvement. Eager participants can submit their own name or even nominate their friends and submit their stories based on the theme, “Pushing the Limit for a Better Life”. In accordance with the theme, they must describe goals they have achieved or ideas that they have for the betterment of the environment, the improvement of technology, or even something as simple as making their neighbors happy.

In conjunction with its sponsorship of the Olympic Games, Samsung reaffirms its social commitment by helping less fortunate youths and the disabled around the region through the “Journey of Harmony”, viral email program.

Commencing from 4 October 2007, members of the public is encouraged to spread the “journey” by clicking into www.samsungtorchbearer.com.my to sign an Olympics’ supporter petition form. All they need to do is to submit their names and a valid email. Samsung has pledged to donate RM 0.10 to charity, for every signed petition and aims to reach 600,000 petitioners. All proceeds will be donated to three selected charity homes. 

Samsung takes the passion to connect with local communities and is committed in contributing to bridge the digital divide among the youth and people living with disabilities, making the world a better place to live in. Through this Journey of Harmony petition, Samsung invites you to support to spread the Olympic spirit while contributing in good cause to the charity homes.
