Enter Into The Magical Realm Petronas Malaysian Grand Prix Fantasy Gala 2007

The 9th edition of the Petronas Malaysian Grand Prix on 6th–8th April 2007 has made its way to Malaysia. Welcoming this adrenalin-pumping weekend was the much-anticipated social event of the year, the Petronas Malaysia Grand Prix Fantasy Gala 2007.  Sponsored by Petronas and Tourism Malaysia, this much talked about elegant gala welcomed guests with a bubbly reception followed by a grand, lavish ball that included and after-party with the sensational, multiple Grammy award winning band, Earth, Wind & Fire at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.

More than 600 guests and the crème de la crème of society graced the gala, and among the VVIPs making a presence at this prestigious occasion included the Guest of Honour Seri Paduka Baginda Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin ibni Al-marhum Sultan Mahmud Al-Muktafi Billah Shah, the Royal Patron Seri Paduka Baginda Raja Permaisuri Agong Tuanku Nur Zahirah, YAB Datuk Seri Abdullah Hj Ahmad Badawi, Prime Minister of Malaysia, YAB Dato Sri Mohd Najib Abdul Razak, Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia, YABhg Datin Sri Rosmah Mansor, cabinet ministers, captains of industry, socialites, local stars from the film and music industry as well as F1 team principals and drivers.
 
The evening’s agenda began with a cocktail reception whereby guests were given the opportunity to mingle and meet with their favourite F1 drivers.  Then they were ushered into the magical realm of the grand ballroom, decked according to the gala’s ‘Fantasy’ theme. In line with this theme, Pegasus, the iconic winged-horse in Greek mythology that carried Zeus’ thunderbolts, was the iconic element at the gala, adding a mythical charm to the night’s mysterious atmosphere. Whilst guests finished their sumptuous gourmet dinner, master illusionist Peter May, an Englishman (now based in Australia), commonly dubbed as the “Magician of Oz” amazed the audience with his mind-boggling magic tricks. He even made a Petronas F1 car appeared on stage right before everyone’s eyes!

In addition to the spectacular performance by Peter May, guest were given a surprise performance by celebrated songbirds from the region, the sensational Datin Siti Nurhaliza and the dazzling Ruth Sahanaya, who hails from Indonesia. Their famous voices filled the ballroom with pizzazz, setting the tone for the party later.
