The UK Celebrates 50 years of Excellent Education Partnership in Malaysia at the Education UK 2007 Expo

In the 1950s…Tuanku Abdul Rahman, Sultan Azlan Shah. Today, Dato’ Nazir Razak, Dato Tony Fernandes, Yasmin Ahmad, Joanne Yeoh. What do they have in common? They have all reaped the benefits of a UK education.

This year, the UK celebrates 50 years of strong educational ties with Malaysia at the Education UK 2007 Expo. The Expo forms part of a wider year long campaign entitled “Malaysia & UK : Forward Together” that celebrates 50 years of bilateral relationship between Malaysia and UK as partners and friends, from education to trade and investment to travel and tourism.

The campaign focuses not only on the past; on shared history, values, traditions and common institutions but also on the future, stressing in particular the themes of education, science, and innovation.

Over the last 50 years, thousands of students have walked through the doors at the British Council seeking advice, guidance and support in relation to studying in the UK. Today, 11,500 Malaysian students are in the UK pursuing their qualifications with a further 30,000 studying for UK qualifications delivered partially or totally in Malaysia. Furthermore, more than 80 British tertiary institutions have links or collaborative arrangements with Malaysian counterparts.

In keeping step with the continued demand for information on education opportunities in the UK, the British Council introduced specialized and professional education exhibitions to bring UK universities directly to the doorsteps of the Malaysian population. This year, the Education UK 2007 Expo will host 78 top-notch UK universities and colleges.

"The Education UK 2007 Expo was devised with one thought in mind - to bring first-hand, unbiased information about studying and living in the UK to talented young Malaysians and their parents and educators. The Expo is designed to help students make an informed decision about the most suitable course and institution to pursue their education, and make the application process as easy and hassle-free as possible,” states Susana Galván, Director, Education and Training, British Council Malaysia.
