“Pulcinella”, “Crane” and “Amphithrite”,
immortalised on the porcelain cap of the
Montblanc Annual Edition 2007
The pot-bellied “Pulcinella“, one of the oldest figures in the commedia
dell’arte, is shown by the skilled Meissen porcelain painters in
magnificent overglaze technique playing his tricks for the thematic
series “Venetian Carnival“. With a dark half-mask and colourful
costume, he stands proudly on the white porcelain cap of the Annual
Edition 2007.
The “Crane” has been immortalised by the Indian painters of the
porcelain factory in fine brushwork for the series “Mythical
Creatures“. The crane, the bird of immortality and eternal happiness,
points its beak upwards as if making a mating call. Since time
immemorial called the “King of the Air” because of its red crown, it is
a messenger of heaven and mediates between the earthly and heavenly
spheres.
Finally “Amphitrite“, the sensuous nymph and wife of the sea god
Poseidon, has already been captured in porcelain by Meissen by the
early designer Johann Joachim Kaendler for Catherine the Great. As this
year’s motif in the series “Classical Myths“, a sea creature carries
the beautiful goddess gently over the waves on the porcelain cap of the
Annual Edition 2007.
