Master Compressor Extreme World Chronograph “46”, the watch of world-beaters

The Master Compressor Extreme World Chronograph “46” brings together two very different but equally remarkable worlds. Drawn by his fascination for the creations of Jaeger-LeCoultre, Valentino Rossi first visited the Vallée de Joux Manufacture last April. That the young Italian champion and the centuries-old Swiss watchmaker had a great deal in common was immediately obvious: technical excellence, peerless performance and the quest for perfection are defining characteristics of both of them. Were the personalities involved less driven, however, mutual recognition of their shared values might have been the end of it. Instead, this meeting of minds proved to be the beginning of a collaboration now sealed by the appearance of the Master Compressor Extreme World Chronograph “46”

You can’t raise yourself to the position of world number one – and remain there – without possessing genius. Still ahead of their time after 170 years in the watchmaking avant-garde, Jaeger-LeCoultre know this. So too does Valentino Rossi, seven-times world champion at the age of just 27. And now theircoming together has given rise to a watch of genius which bears the imprint of both its parents. The prince of motorcycling came to the Manufacture’s workshops to study sketches, prototypes and 3D projections, urging his team on to ever greater heights of ingenuity and innovation before finally declaring himself satisfied with the design over whose conception he had just presided.

The Master Compressor Extreme World Chronograph “46” brings together all the qualities that define the genius of both Jaeger-LeCoultre and Valentino Rossi: boldness, a passion for the extreme and, not least, the capacity to triumph no matter what the conditions.

The case is in titanium, a light, strong, water-resistant high-tech material that is as well suited to performing at the highest levels in horological constructions as on a motorcycle chassis. On the racing circuits just as on watches, every fraction of a second counts: consequently, reliability is of paramount importance. But Valentino Rossi would not put his name to a beautiful piece of engineering were it not also a beautiful piece of design. Results are important, obviously, but count for little if they are delivered without panache. As such, the Master Compressor’s two push-pieces controlling the chronograph come in black PVD-treated steel, a stylish finish synonymous with the highest technical standards. The case support is in brushed pink gold, with warm overtones reminiscent of the colours of Valentino Rossi’s native land. In sport as in watchmaking, success often has its roots in an individual’s – or a Manufacture’s – geographical origins.
