Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Opens Intellectual Property Rights Seminar

Datuk Mohd Shafie Apdal, the Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs, today officially launched the Joint Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Seminar themed “IP Creation and Development in Government Departments, R&D Institutions and Universities”.

The Seminar was organized by the Intellectual Property Alumni Association of Malaysia (IPAAM), a non-profit association dedicated to the dissemination of intellectual property awareness to the Malaysian public, trade and industry, together with the Perbadanan Harta Intelek Malaysia (MyIPO), Japan Patent Office (JPO) and Japan Institute of Invention and Innovation (JIII).

The two-day Seminar attended by more than 120 individuals from the trade and industry, government, education sector, legal firms and the intellectual property service community, is targeted towards fostering greater understanding of IP creation and development of intellectual property, which are becoming critically important all around the world due to the phenomenon of increasing dominance of the new knowledge economy over the old ‘brick & mortar’ economy.
