World’s No 1 Top Glove Manufacturer Is Malaysian Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year!
    

During an impressive Awards Ceremony, a prestigious jury, named Y Bhg Dato’ Dr. Lim Wee-Chai of Top Glove Corporation Berhad as Malaysia’s Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year® 2004, chosen from a selection of 14 outstanding entrepreneurs, each and everyone of them, leading captains of industry in their own right.
   
Dato’ Dr. Lim Wee-Chai received his Award from YAB Dato’ Seri Abdullah Badawi, the Prime Minister of Malaysia. In addition to receiving the Country Award, Dato’ Dr. Lim was also named the recipient of the Master Entrepreneur of the Year® award.

Dato’ Dr Lim Wee-Chai and his wife founded Top Glove in 1991 with the vision of exporting Made-in-Malaysia gloves to every corner of the world. The price slump in the mid 90s, which drove many players out of the industry, was a significant hurdle, which Top Glove overcame with perseverance and shrewd management. In a little over 13 years, the Group now has 7 factories in Malaysia, 2 in Thailand and 1 in China, with a production capacity of more than 9 billion pieces of gloves per annum and exports to 145 countries worldwide. A strong advocate of knowledge, Dato’ Dr Lim’s favourite personal philosophy is “Must Know, Must Do, Must Teach”. Listed on the Bursa Malaysia in 2001, Top Glove has won numerous local and international quality accreditations and excellence awards. Recently Top Glove overtook Kimberly Clark of the USA to become the world’s Number One disposable latex and synthetic glove manufacturer.

As the Malaysian Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year 2004, Y. Bhg. Dato’ Dr Lim Wee-Chai, will now carry the flag and represent the country at the world award event at Monte Carlo in May 2005.  This world award event, is the stage where more than 35 of the best entrepreneurs from around the globe will compete for the 5th Ernst & Young World Entrepreneur of the Year Award which has become the global benchmark of entrepreneurial excellence.

The awards are a culmination of several months of interviews and judging sessions by an independent panel of judges. Three other awards were presented this evening.  Mr Choong Hock Phung of Trend Matrix Enterprises Sdn Bhd was named the Emerging Entrepreneur Of The Year. Mr Mark Chang, founder of JobStreet Corporation Bhd, was named the Information & Communications Technology Entrepreneur Of The Year.  Y Bhg Datin Dr. Liana Low of BELL Group, was named the Woman Entrepreneur Of The Year.
