The Children’s Storytelling @ Suria KLCC

Once upon a time.... and the story begins… Yes, it is that time of the year again, time for the Children’s Storytelling @ Suria KLCC, a storytelling competition organized by Suria KLCC annually. 

Held in its fifth consecutive year, this year’s Children’s Storytelling @ Suria KLCC is a joint effort with the National Library and is endorsed by the Ministry of Education.  Ten finalists from Tahap 1 (ages 7 to 9) and 2 (ages 10 to 12) were selected to compete for the title of best storyteller.  Having gone through a grueling semi-final round, the 20 young finalists were decked in their costumes to slip into their story telling characters at the finals stage.

Themed, “Malaysia History, Folklore and Fables”, this year’s Children’s Storytelling @ Suria KLCC, the Competition, strived to encourage and entice children to have a special interest towards Malaysian heritage and historical stories.

The 20 finalists all displayed wit, charm and creativity and mesmerized the audience and judges with their expressive, colourful and interesting interpretation of Malaysian stories. It was a morning of sheer fun and a thrilling display of creativity as they mimicked characters from their stories, ranging from Daeng Parani, the fierce Bugis, the Sultan of Melaka to Sang Kelembai, Puteri Gunung Ledang and Mahsuri. 

The prizes went to Farah Amani (1st), Tim Koh (2nd) and Jeffrey Johan (3rd) of Tahap 1, as well as to Ian Loo (1st), Jes Ebrahim Zaidin (2nd) and Nik Adruce (3rd) of Tahap 2 for their excellent performance. All the contestants were applauded for their courage and bravery, every one of them were winners at heart.
