Malaysia a Telecommunications Model for Swaziland

King of Swaziland, His Majesty King Mswati III affirmed Swaziland’s high regard for Malaysia’s rapid progress and development as an ICT hub within the South East Asia (SEA) region when he visited AIMS Telecommunications Hub on 3 August 2004.  His Majesty reinforced that Swaziland would continue to learn from Malaysia’s vast experience specifically in the telecommunications industry through Swaziland’s most significant ICT technology partner, Applied Information Management Services Sdn Bhd (AIMS).

The Swaziland King was taken on a tour of AIMS Telecommunications Hub, which provides one of the most interconnected telecommunication facilities in the country where it is focused towards the hosting of major telecommunications services.  The data centre offers an advanced and versatile neutral telecommunication co-location site with a comprehensive range of services.

With its technology know-how, understanding and proficiency in the telecommunications industry, AIMS is tasked to transfer its knowledge and ICT skills to help develop the Swaziland ICT sector. .

AIMS Chief Operating Officer, Afzal Abdul Rahim said, “We are very proud that Malaysia has been recognized as an ICT infrastructure model for Swaziland.  This clearly proves that Malaysia has progressed and evolved from an ICT product orientated country to one that provides innovative ICT services and solutions.”  He continued, “AIMS’ innovation in providing a neutral platform for connectivity to telecommunications service providers has contributed to the development of volume of traffic between the local and international carriers”.

Established in 1990, AIMS is the first network operator in Malaysia and has now emerged as a niche player in the corporate ISP and the Internet/Telecommunications Xchange market.  Using its facilities as a gateway to provide telecommunications services, most of AIMS clients include international telecommunications companies.
