Cisco CIO Advises Malaysian Companies To Use Self Defending
Networks as a Business Advantage
At the
Cisco Security Summit 2004, Cisco Systems chief information officer
Brad Boston urged Malaysian companies to take proactive steps to adopt
a Self-Defending Network strategy and develop a comprehensive approach
towards enterprise security to gain a significant business advantage
over their competitors.
Speaking to more than 500 C-level executives and information security
professionals at the Cisco Systems Security Summit 2004, Mr. Boston
shared his experience in managing the security of Cisco's global
network and how Cisco's self-defence network initiative has been
applied to Cisco's own integrated voice/data/video
infrastructure.
The Self-Defending Network is Cisco’s vision to dramatically improve
the network’s ability to identify, prevent, and respond to security
threats.
“The strategy behind Cisco’s Self-Defending Network is to integrate
security services throughout Internet Protocol (IP) networks by
delivering new system-level threat defense capabilities. The
proactive deployment of self-defending, and self-healing networks, and
building advanced security into the network infrastructure will provide
secure enterprise solutions that enable customers to reduce risk, drive
productivity, and lower costs in the long run,” said Mr. Boston.
The Cisco Systems Security Summit 2004 is the industry’s most important
security event of the year. The two-day conference featured some
of the country’s leading experts in data and network protection. Themed
“A Demonstration of the Latest Self-Defence Techniques for your
Network”, the Cisco Systems Security Summit 2004 revolved around a
series of technical sessions that examined every aspect of IP and
network security, covering issues like specific perimeter systems,
network loopholes, endpoint security and best practices, to help
decision-makers plan and build self-defending networks. The Summit also
featured Cisco partners demonstrating the latest in network security
technologies, including solutions from HP, Network Associates, Trend
Micro, Datacraft, CSA and VADS.
